a specific position that fits you - apply anyway- your job may
have arrived just today or tomorrow morning . . .

BA/BS Required - any Major okay

with the specifics for the position you are most qualified for.

ALL the requirements and have submitted
ALL the required scans/documents in

Government Colleges and Universities tend to pay
a little LESS than other schools.
We work with them because they are
the MOST RELIABLE employers in China.

You won't have visa, contract or accommodation problems - or wonder if you are going to get paid.  You won't have to wonder if the story is going to change the day you arrive . . .

The wages are what they are.  There is very limited room for negotiation - if any.  If you wish to find a position for different wages - please don't apply for these jobs.

While the wages are relatively modest by Western standards - they are excellent wages on the local economy and often teachers can save more than they could have "back home".

With free accommodation, flight reimbursement,
often free or subsidized utilities - what you earn
is just for Fun and Food!

These are excellent - GOOD RELIABLE jobs with Government  Schools.

When we send you an offer and/or a contract it will arrive in your email as an attachment.  MANY spam-filters assume that an email with an attachment is SPAM.

This is particularly true for Yahoo, Hotmail, Gmail and other email providers.

When communicating with us be sure to check your SPAM and JUNK MAIL folders for your Job Offer or Contract.

Please check your email DAILY or even several times a day.  Jobs offers are time limited and schools are eager to know if you want the job or not.

If there is no reply to the job offer or no decision with 24-48 hours, they will offer the job to someone else.

Frequently Asked Questions about the Positions
at the Colleges and Universities

These are general answers - be sure to check YOUR INDIVIDUAL CONTRACT
for specifics.

          1.   Starting date of the positions?   Varies by School

2.   What is the salary range? Typically about 5000-5500RMB

3.   What % is taken from the teacher's pay for taxes?

A maximum of about 7% - in some positions the pay rate quoted will be   noted as "Net" or after taxes and withholding.  BUT, usually there are no taxes if your wages are 4500RMB or less and only a 3% tax above 5300RMB.  Your "take home" wages will be almost 100% - or in some cases - exactly 100% of your wages.

4.   Is airfare reimbursed?  If so, how much and when?

Approximately 6000-8000RMB international airfares.  Usually reimbursed at the end of the semester or end of contract.

5.   Are accommodations provided for the teacher? What type  (apartment/dormitory) and how far is it from the school?

Relatively standardized accommodation is provided at government colleges and universities usually on campus but sometimes a short distance away.  Accommodation is always private and will almost always include: Basic furnishings,  Internet access, low cost or subsidized utilities (within reason), a washing machine, microwave oven, TV, air conditioning and other amenities are provided.

6.   Photographs of a typical apartment are below:

          7. Will someone from the school pick the teacher up from the airport? YES

8.  What type of classes (oral, written) will the teacher be teaching?

Typically "Oral Skills" and sometimes writing or other skills.

9.  How old will the students be? 18-22 - but can vary a bit.

10.   How long is a teaching period?  Forty to fifty minutes per class - depends on the school

11.  What the teaching schedule?  Working hours are usually between  8-11:30AM and 1:30-5:30PM

12.  Are there classes on weekend?     Not usually.

13.  How many hours per week will the teacher be teaching?

Not more than 18-22 classes per week, usually less.  More than your contracted hours is usually considered "overtime" and additional payment is made for these hours.   It is easy to increase your income.

14.   In addition to teaching hours, how many hours of preparation/office time will the teacher need to   complete per week?

There is not usually a regulated office time, it depends on the school.

15.  In addition to teaching students, what additional duties is the teacher expected to perform?

Often one or two "English Corners" are required per month - sometimes once per week.  These are sessions that students attend for "free talking" - just a time for informal conversation and chatting.  Often no real preparation is required and setting may even be in the schools dining room and just a fun time to interact with the students without the pressure of the classroom.

16.   Is medical insurance provided to the teacher?

The schools will usually cover the insurance for teachers each year.

17.  Will the school provide the teacher with a  "Z" visa before departing for China?

Usually YES - sometimes other provisions are made for legal working papers.

18.  Will the school provide a Chinese course for the teacher?

SOME, but not all schools will offer two hours per week of instruction - teachers are usually able to attend existing language classes.

Are you working with several recruiters?

Be aware that if you work with more than one recruiter, it is possible that several will present you to many schools and you will often be presented by several recruiters to one school.

Schools then believe that you are scouting many schools.  They will take your interest as being less sincere and wonder if you will show up or are just looking for a better offer - thus leaving them without a teacher.

At TEFL Jobs China we will present you to only ONE school at a time. Our schools KNOW that, and it increases your chances of a hire.

PLEASE NOTE:   All applicants for a visa in China must complete a physical examination.  While the examination is thorough, it is not cheap, but does not need to be expensive.  If you do not belong to a health plan, you can seek out a "free clinic" or inexpensive social services clinic for your examination.   We will also give you some "tips" on how to reduce the cost of the exam.

The exam is REQUIRED.

ANY candidate who has NOT lived AND worked abroad before - outside their home country - should download and read the eBook Seven Secrets to Success Abroad.  It is a free download and will open in a new window.

PLEASE READ the eBook and pay particular attention to Chapter One - pages 5-8 and Chapter Four, pages 12-14.

ALL Positions will be filled on a first-come-first-served basis
and positions will remain open until filled.

HOWEVER - We almost always have positions we need to fill - don't hesitate to submit your documents to obtain a job offer.

We regret that we can only respond to short-listed candidates.
