What to See and Do in China

As any other country of the world China has many of interesting places to offer for visiting and having a good time,  but maybe China offers a LOT more than most!

China is one of the most exotic countries of the world and holds a huge historical and cultural heritage.

Large cities have lots of places to visit: museums, movie theaters, shopping malls, parks, zoos, spas and beauty saloons, massage places, KTVs (China’s version of karaoke), concert halls, stadiums, casinos, restaurants, night clubs, temples, ancient places, beautiful landscapes, mountains and hills for climbing – and much much more.

There are so many unique places that exist only in China and really worth seeing, such as The Great Wall, which is one of the Eight Wonders of the World. It covers eight provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions. This is one the places that makes an exciting, unforgettable impression as if you fly back in time to hundreds of years ago and the next moment come back again to present and even future.

The biggest square in world is Tiananmen Square (the “door to heaven”), located in Beijing, which is also known as “The Gate of Heavenly Peace”. In the same area, you can find such historical places as Forbidden City, Monument to the People’s Heroes, Great Hall of the People, Mao Zedong Memorial Hall and see the national flag raising ceremony. Millions of people come to the Square every year. It is the must place to visit in Beijing City.

Apart from these places, you might want to visit Summer Palace (old imperial garden), which is especially beautiful in spring and summer. The Temple of Heaven, Beihai Park, Beijing Zoo, Bird’s Nest (Olympic Stadium), The Capital Museum, The Temple of Confucius and many other places in Beijing will attract your attention and give you unforgettable impressions.

There are so many more famous and interesting places across China. The Western Lake in Hangzhou, Suzhou Gardens, Oriental Pearl TV Tower in Shanghai, which so fantastic at night as it faces the sea; the Terracotta Warriors and Horses in Xian, which is also considered to be one of the Eight Wonders of the World, the second largest island in China – Hainan, Chongqing China Three Gorges Museum; Meixi Royal Stone Archways in Zhuhai and this list is never going to end.

A lot of foreigners just love traveling around China, even if they stay at the same city, they just go to new places every weekend and find something remarkable. Some of my friends, who are also teachers try to visit as many cities of China as possible. They move from city to city. Every new contract they find a new job in a new city and move there – a good way for real fans of traveling. I would say these people have already traveled all over China, but they still manage to find other ways for entertainment.

Among activities to try: go to the movies, shopping, to massage places – Chinese blind massage is especially popular and good for your body – go to the bars and night clubs, parties, martial arts exhibitions (popular in smaller cities among guys) and yoga places.   From belly dance to climbing mountains, going swimming, playing tennis, singing at KTV and more – there is always something on offer.

My favorite is going out for eating hot pot with my friends. Eating hot pot could be a good reason to see old friends, because almost everybody likes it, especially in winter, when it’s cold or freezing outside. I like to go shopping to buy gifts or Chinese traditional souvenirs. There are so many famous places in Beijing where you can buy almost everything. Well known places for shopping are Xidan Shopping Area, Wangfujing Street, Silk Market, Wudaokou Shopping Center, Yabaolu Market, Houhai Lake and many others. I just love Beijing for this, because you can bargain in these places and get the price reduced to the extent that suits you.

I also enjoy climbing mountains, watching movies, going out to watch traditional Chinese festivals and performances, that’s why I always look forward to Chinese holidays. All in all people in China have unique and very interesting traditions and customs from wedding ceremonies to funerals.

You’ll never lack for something to do here.
